The D.O.F.-GUIDE designed by Lutz Konermann ©1990
Cinematographers of all nations,
say "goodbye" to tables, rulers, calculators - and "welcome" to the
D.O.F.-GUIDE,
the only all-at-a-glance-tool which offers you a unique method of
determining depth-of-field options instantaneously, intuitively and simultaneously!
- Depth-of-field comparisons by f/stops from 1.4 to 22 (with
the accuracy of half stops!)
- Depth-of-field comparisons by focal lengths
simultaneously from 14 to 135mm (35mm-film) and 9.5 to 85mm
(16mm-film)
The D.O.F.-GUIDE is made of interchangeable
components ("scales" and "wheels", both 15cm in diameter) to fit
every production's needs. Each scale is subdivided by 35 distances
for the most accurate reading, each wheel carries 7 focal
lengths combined in popular sets:
- Scale M: Front in metres (infinity - 0.55), back
in centimetres (65 - 30)
- Scale F: Front in feet (infinity - 1'9"), back
in inches (26" - 12")
- Wheel 35A: 14, 18, 25, 35, 50, 85, 135mm for
35mm-film (max. circle of confusion = 0.025mm)
- Wheel 35B: 16, 20, 24, 32, 40, 60, 100mm for
35mm-film (max. circle of confusion = 0.025mm)
- Wheel 16: 9.5, 12, 16, 25, 35, 50, 85mm for
16mm-film (max. circle of confusion = 0.015mm)
(The illustration shows wheel 35A on scale M)
