Born May, 5th 1958 in Bardenberg (Germany). Childhood in Germany, adolescence in Milano (Italy).
Languages spoken: German, English, Italian, Swiss German, French.
Master in film directing ("with excellency") at the Highschool for Film and Television, Munich (Germany) in 1982.
Acting classes with Susan Batson, New York in 1984.
Freelance director and cinematographer (from 1980); script writer, script consultant and educator (from 1990).
Co-founder of the German independent distribution initiative "Der andere Blick".
Twice winner of the German Film Award ("Bundesfilmpreis") in 1983, for outstanding achievements as director ("Aufdermauer"/1982) and producer ("Spätvorstellung"/1982). Winner of the "Max-Ophüls-Preis" 1986, Saarbrücken, promotional award and special award of the INTERFILM-Jury ("Schwarz und ohne Zucker"/1985). "Film-Award" of the City of Munich in 1988. Adolf-Grimme-Award (the German "Emmy"),1997 for outstanding achievement as director ("Eine fast perfekte Liebe"/1996).
Highschool teacher at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Ludwigsburg (Germany) since its foundation in 1991. Since 1994 Head of the "Fictional film" department. Professorship from 1998 on.
Member of council, "FOCAL", the Swiss Fund for cinematographic post-graduate training, as a delegate of the Association of Swiss Filmmakers, "FDS".
Director of script development initiatives "TV Movies SF" and "KINO" by FOCAL.
Lives in Zürich (Switzerland) with film scholar Dr. Barbara Flückiger-Konermann and daughter Silvana.
